Are you accepting credit or debit card payments from your customers?

If so, it is important that you comply with the Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard (PCI-DSS) to protect your customers' sensitive payment card information and ensure the security of your business.

PCI-DSS is a set of security standards developed by major credit card companies to prevent data breaches, theft, or fraud. Compliance with PCI-DSS is mandatory for any organization that accepts card payments, and failure to comply can have serious consequences, including fines, penalties, increased risk of data breach, loss of business, and more.

Complying with PCI-DSS can help you to mitigate these risks by implementing best practices for securing payment card data, demonstrating to your customers and partners that you take data security seriously, and meet industry standards and requirements.

On May 1, 2023, the Manitoba provincial government made a significant announcement that would benefit thousands of disabled citizens in the province. The government has committed to comply with The Accessibility Standard for Information and Communication, which would help to reduce barriers for disabled Manitobans. This move would have a far-reaching impact on disabled individuals and their families, as it would make it easier for them to access crucial information online. As per the Accessibility Standard, any information that is available online through websites or social media must meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) version 2.1 level AA. This is a significant step in the right direction, as it would ensure that disabled citizens have the same access to information as their non-disabled counterparts. While compliance with the legislation is a crucial factor in improving accessibility, it is not the only reason to prioritize accessibility. However, it can help create priority and urgency in cracking open the door. Public sector organizations, libraries, and educational institutions have until May 1, 2024, to be compliant with the Accessibility Standard. Private sector organizations, non-profit organizations, and municipalities in Manitoba with one or more employees must comply by May 1, 2025. If organizations need assistance understanding the implications of this legislation, the government has urged them to seek help. The government is ready to provide any assistance needed to ensure that all organizations can comply with the Accessibility Standard and help make Manitoba an accessible province for all.
